A day in Nice and Monaco with Özlem Gürses

Published June 6, 2025

The full film, on Özlem Gürses’s channel. It opens at the Nice market.

Turkish journalist Özlem Gürses came to film in Nice and Monaco. I hosted her from the market to the back streets, in Turkish, the way I host visitors arriving from Turkey.

This film, published on Özlem Gürses’s channel, opens at the Nice market. When the camera starts rolling I am beside her: the person showing her the city and explaining what we are eating and why. Then come the back streets, the socca, and the day closes in Monaco.

The view is not a native’s but that of someone who has lived here a long time. I came to Nice to study and stayed; what I tell people does not come from a brochure but from the daily life of someone who does her shopping here. That is why we can talk about why trees casting shade over shops on a village square became a local issue, or about how Monaco actually works.

This is exactly the work I do with visitors arriving from Turkey. For a journalist, a family or a small group of friends, the only thing that changes is the programme: the route, the tempo, the table you sit at. The commentary is in Turkish, with no interpreter, and nothing gets lost along the way.
